… the first month of spring! Time to enjoy the abundance of fresh produce becoming available now.

Asian greens, snow peas, spring onions, sweet corn and beetroot are plentiful this time of year. In September papaya and pawpaw become available and fresh local strawberries make a comeback.

Make the most of seasonal produce in September with the FoodWise Seasonal Meal Plan.

By choosing recipes around seasonality, you get the benefit of the freshest and most nutritious produce that has also often travelled the shortest distance to your plate. Seasonal produce is usually cheaper, so it’s also a great way to save money too.

The following is a rough guide to what’s in season this September:

Local farmers markets are a great way to find out what’s in season, support local growers and feed your household with fresh, nutritious produce.

Find out the location of your closest farmers market at the Australian Farmers Markets Association website.

Fresh fruit and vegetable co-ops and delivery services are another easy way to eat seasonally. Find out more at Local Harvest.
