OzHarvest is a non-denominational charity that rescues quality excess food which would otherwise be discarded. This surplus food is redistributed at no cost, to more than 500 different charitable organisations and welfare agencies, providing much needed assistance to vulnerable and disadvantaged men, women and children.

    Problem

Food waste is a huge challenge that needs to be addressed locally and be embraced within our own homes first, so that we can affect incremental change globally. Our challenge is to create a sustainable food culture that can be shared by all. It’s a paradox that we produce enough food to feed all seven billion of us, yet so many in this world go hungry.

We should also not buy into the fact that fruit and veg needs to be cosmetically beautiful before we’ll buy it, because for every bendy or blemished carrot thrown out – we throw away embedded water, energy and fuel.

    Hope

OzHarvest would like the Australian public, businesses and government to make a pledge to minimise our food waste as individuals and collectively. Together, we are determined to make our contribution to this global challenge.

    Proud

OzHarvest aims to Nourish Our Country by educating the public about the issues of food waste and food security, promoting healthy eating and nutrition and encouraging ways to minimise the impact of waste on the environment.

    Die Happy

    Bread and Butter Pudding Challenge

OzHarvest rescued the equivalent of 20 bath tubs of thickened cream that would otherwise have been wasted, and with the help of Brasserie Bread bakers, used it to make 5000 bread and butter puddings that were served up for free for the public as part of a global United Nations campaign against food waste.
